I have a Canon Rebel XTi, I am looking for a general purpose wide angle lens reasonably priced. I know non-name brands are a good choice. Does anyone have a suggestion for what would work for me?

What's your name if you're not in North Carolina?...lol

Depends on what you mean by wide angle. There are several discussions here about W/A lenses. Sigma and Tamron make decent lenses for your rebel. Sigma has a 10-20mm that is not bad at all, and I believe Tammy makes one similar. The Canon 10-22 EFS is the standard against which the other APS-C format camera lenses are compared. Anything above 35mm at the wide end will not be 'wide' on your APS-C sensor camera.

Hello, and welcome to the Hog.

I have the "tammy" as Jim calls it. Not impressed.
The 60D is my camera of choice. To date very few pictures have been good.
A friend has the Sigma and really likes it. So, that all for my imput on the subject.

Depends on the "state" of mind you are in lol
Thanks the info is helpful, the sensor size really throws off what you may think is reality with the 1.6 multiplier. Good advice.

I have heard others say good things about Sigma not necessarily wide angle but telephoto. Thanks

My friend ( also a canon user) says the 50mm is a great all purpose lens for landscapes. Since I shoot birdies and other wildlife I only have zoom lens-ez! 400mm and 70-300mm.
I too am a XTi XSi user.

I also really like wildlife. Animals, flowers, trees. I am interested in maybe getting a macro lens for that but all of them are so expensive.

I'm not sure I'd recommend a 50mm on an APS-C body as "wide angle landscape" material.

If you just want to buy ONE lens, then the Canon 18-135 EF-S or 28-135 EF are both decent. The 18 goes fairly wide, and at 135mm you're getting good zoom. If you can't capture 95% of things between 18 and 135mm, you're in the wrong business.
