If I remember, the cost of a hamburger at our first nearby
MacDonalds in Kankakee, IL was twelve cents in the late
1950s. I can't imagine what those burgers will they cost
when their minimum wage goes to fifteen dollars per hour.
(Sorry, but I can't say what they cost now. I haven't had
any in a while.)

Ah - the Cross Bronx! A garbage truck took out a tender on my VW Beetle on a ramp there. More recently I gritted my teeth growing an Airstream travel trailer across the GW bridge and the Cross Bronx. And, lived to tell 'bout it. That was after "CAMPING" in Jersey City - had to meet a relative en route to Newfoundland. Otherwise I woulda given The City a wide skirt. Betcha didn't know one can "camp" within sight of Wall Street.

Won’t change McDonalds but a nickel or two. The problem is for the Mom & Pop burger joint. They don’t have the economics of scale nor can they go to ordering kiosks like McD’s are installing to reduce labor costs.

When the bridges in NY City were built the tolls were said to pay for the bridges and their maintenance. The Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority was set up to oversee those structures. But some time in the 60's (I think) the tolls were rolled into the general funds of NY City and have become just another tax. So much for the "temporary" tolls. Who was it who said " There is nothing so permenant as a temporary tax"
