I have a problem with the lack of sharpness and . . . .
I am posting this photo to see if my problem shows itself. If it does, then I will try later to describe it in detail.

For a night shot, I would have to say it is pretty darn aaaawesome.

Thanks, Erv.
When you click on "download", does it drastically change the appearance? On my monitor, it makes it look like it has been sharpened way too much.
The viewer on my computer is IrfanView and this photo, straight out of the camera, looks like it has been sharpened too much. It actually looks terrible. When I open it in Photoshop, much of the grainyness is gone. Looks much like it does here in this post, before clicking "download".
None of my photos are as sharp as I hoped they would be. I shoot with a Canon T3i and the 18-55 and 75-300 kit lenses. I know these are the cheaper lenses, but I did expect more out of them than what I'm getting.
The photo in my post was shot with the 18-55 from a distance of around 10 feet. Should be very sharp but it isn't.

I put it in Aperture and looked at it with the loupe at +2 and it looks good to me. I don't know what you are seeing.

Camerahand I agree with you especially the foxes coat look like it is sharpened too much.
Looks great to me. I think the flash highlighted the silver on the foxe's coat.
Looks pretty darn good to me.
Thanks for all of the responses. Maybe I was just expecting too much. These old eyes are almost as old as I am, so that could be a big part of the problem.

Not sure what the problem is as I look at the image, but what a great capture this is.

Looked at the photo again after reading what you thought the problem was and the comments. I think you are being overly critical on yourself. Both the fox and raccoon are sharp. I think the flash reflected off the fox's fur giving it a glittery effect as someone already mentioned. Again, great capture. 8-)
Great capture, I agree with Bmac, possible flash reflection on the fur. I'd be pleased with those shots. Regards, Neweagle
Looks spot on with my iMac 27" monitor.
