I didn't participate this time, but I found it interesting that all but #10 aligned the photo vertically according to the masts on the ship, instead of the shoreline horizon.

Some look quite off-balance because of that.

People often say they learn a lot on UHH. The most noticeable defect I miss in many of my pictures is straightness. Until I posted some pics on the hog that were so crooked it was laughable, yet I never seemed to notice. I have slowly become more observant of this aspect of pictures, but still often over look it. Even when I see it, I sometimes have to work hard to get it right. One exception is water, lakes, rivers oceans, they are all easy to straighten because the water is always level in real life. This particular picture is a great example, as you have pointed out.

AFTER reading your comment, I noticed how blatantly out of level my, and others photo's were. I guess we're so intent on other issues our eyes just pass right over this major issue, as we focus on color, lighting, telephone poles sticking out of aunt Betty's head and so on. It seems our brain auto adjusts how things are to how it thinks they should be. That's a constant problem with photo editing. Darn brain is always auto correcting...
