From here it looks just fine. Can you explain your use of "clam shell" please?

I used two lights. One softbox above her head pointing down at a 45* angle to her face. The other, a strip softbox pointing up directly toward the first light, so it is also at a 45* angle to her face. Her face is in effect inside a 'clam shell' of light. The upper softbox was 1 1/2 stops higher than the stripbox if I remember correctly - could have been just one stop but I don't think that created much contrast so I lowered it.
