Yes, there is a difference. Filters should last forever, so buy them once and buy one that is intended to last forever, that being the B+W brand and with their XS-Pro MRC models (UV / ND) or Kaesemann (CPL). Being they are intended forever, look for used filters being resold as a way to save money such as KEH, Adorama, ebay or the for-sale here at UHH.

I agree. Those are what I buy, and buy used if I can.

Thanks for your input!!! I do not understand what justifies the the difference in price between a $30 and a $200 filter. It must be the coating's and if so, does it have a measurable effect on image quality? I am leaning toward the $30 version.

Do you use 1955 uncoated lenses on your 2020 MILC?

I have many old cheap filters still around that I have been gradually replacing with high priced high quality ones. I can easily see the difference by placing them on a printed text page or printed photo. The Schnieder B&W looks like there is nothing there, like an empty ring. The 40 year old Hoya is obviously degrading what one sees. Yes, coatings matter, just like on lenses. Polarizes can cause color shifts as well. The price vs value is not linear but like most anything, you get what you pay for.

And it also depends on to what extent one has to have the absolute,
unequivocal, best.

https://photographypaws.com/the-ultimate-marumi-filters-review/

This is one filter that rarely if ever gets mentioned. I have a Marumi CPL that phenomenally cuts down glare but I've never tested it against one of my others. The sun was beating down on my cars windshield so harshly I could not see the top of the dashboard so to give my Marumi a test I took a picture directly at the windshield and the top of the dashboard could be easily seen in that image. I was impressed.

A Kia and a Lamborghini will both get you to and from work.

The difference is perception,
and whom one wants to impress.

Why do you all insist using a UV filter when you really need a ND 0 filter? (The real 'clear filter')

All lenses are already treated against UVs.

Actually it about comforts.
Ever try the gymnastic needed to get into one if you are tall, fat or old?
Then these cars are real 'tape-cul' you feel every stone on the road....

Give me a fleet of Kia for the price!

I love the 'impressing folks'... Many of those have no clue on how to handle a rear-wheel drive cars which leads to impressive cartwheels on the freeway. (Donuts and going from side to side, out of control is sooooooo ordinary)

I cannot find ND 0 filter. B&H does not list them.
