Old Negatives

In a box of old pictures, slides, and negatives that my wife recently found the are some negatives that are the same width as 35mm stock. The frames are square and there is only one sprocket hole per frame. I have no idea who shot the pictures, what type of camera uses that film, or where the pictures were taken. I hope that at least the answers to the last two questions can be provided by the UHH members. One of the pictures is attached. It may have been taken in the early 1980s.

That one sprocket film came from a Kodak Instamatic camera. Same width as 35MM

Thanks, one left to answer. I suspect that the location of the photo was in the Missouri Ozarks, perhaps near Lake of the Ozarks, Branson, or Eminence.

Has anyone checked out the phone app that allows you to photograph a slide or negative and saves it to your phone?

There is a way to get microsoft to search using an image. No cost, search for "Search using image". I've used it with modest success trying to identify electronic components, etc. Older model boards still often sold on Ebay identified for example.

Yes, agreed, 126 film. If you decide to scan many negatives, and have or think of purchasing an Epson V600 scanner, there is a company called negative solutions.com that has 126 negative holders available. They also sell on Amazon. I recently scanned dozens of rolls of these Instamatic 126 negatives using the provided Epson software. The colors came out quite well without the yellow cast often seen.

A smartphone can’t focus that close without a separate lens attachment.

You are better off with a normal camera and a macro lens.
