Hi folks, wanted to download and try a basic version of GIMP and see how well it works, seems everyone apparently likes it. However, having difficulty in attempting to download....for those that currently use GIMP. is there a trick to downloading GIMP and/or do you need a degree in programming to install and use it. Apparently the latest version is 2.10.24 and the 'setup-1.exe-1' is in my download files. My Windows program (10) doesn't like the downloaded windows version when trying to run it....any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated....Cheers
Can Gimp be used on 32-bit computers? Thanks.

This is from the download page (Yes it can):
https://www.gimp.org/downloads/"Supported OS: Windows 7 or over
These links download the official GIMP installer for Windows (~200 MB). The installer contains both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of GIMP, and will automatically use the appropriate one."

Check to see if you downloaded it twice, you first one should be "setup-1.exe"
As stated below, executables end in exe not exe-?
Good luck (once you've got it operating)! There is an online pdf manual to keep on hand (
https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/ ), and lots of tutorials on YouTube. Start with the basics. Gimp is a lot like Photoshop, with very similar tool sets. PS has things you won't find in Gimp, but personally I've never needed them.
Blaster,
I have found downloading from
https://ninite.com/ to be a safe, effective way of getting many programs that they make available. You can feel secure about anything downloaded from that site as being safe and not 'bundled' with other extras. They do have Gimp available. Give it a try:

If you are downloading GIMP from anywhere other than GIMP.org, please check the MD5 against the original executable for the same reason mentioned above:

Hash Sum
The SHA256 hash sum for gimp-2.10.24-setup-1.exe is: 84a542d717217f5fb996a18093c4424136978ebbf3815db2ee3c5daa8dcafc0b

To verify open Powershell from the start menu and use the following syntax:
---------------------------------
get-filehash .\gimp-2.10.24-setup-1.exeOutput should look like this:

Just to try out my own advice, I compared the Ninite installer against the orginal GIMP executable file hash(es) and came up with something completely different. So Ninite
IS packaging something in the executable other than GIMP.

Glad it worked for you and is up and running! As a sporadic user of GIMP, I can't wait to see what you come up with and maybe some things you learn along the way. I can do basic layering and modifications, but apart from that, it's just there "when" I get around to it.

Thanks John, not a computer whiz so my learning will be taking some time...something to play with though. Cheers!

I've used GIMP for years and I like certain features of it a lot. One thing, though...I've found that when I download for any reason after I delete the program (I hav mac) when you do download, there is a leg time...so the program opens but the features just don't work. It's as if the cursor has no effect. It take a while...even up to an hour...before it effectively loads. I have a rather fast computer so it's GIMP that for some reason is responsible for this.
