The mockingbird bully was relentless in running everybody else from the feeders. So bad that we named him Jack 2 after our dachshund who is also a greedy bully. Even went so far as to set up a separate feeder for him but he was neither satisfied nor deterred; until he found his lady that is. I caught a flurry of activity out of the corner of my eye and there was a hungry Cooper’s hawk amidst a pile of buff and grey feathers along with black and white tail feathers. It was a couple of days before I realized that Jack 2 is still here, busily running back and forth from the feeders to the nest where his lady love is roosting and being waited on. I guess what the hawk got was a mourning dove.
He’s very fierce-looking. Nice catch. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent shot, Marg. I'm glad Jack 2 is still with you.
Nice image. Jack 2 is lucky he's still around.

Thanks, Elliott! I saw him from inside the house and went outside. He didn’t really move but I didn’t think I had time to get into a proper position. I think I took about 30 shots so evidently I did have time. Oh well. Next time.

Thanks, Ken! Maybe fortunately for Jack 2 we have a bunch of doves who will be a more substantial meal for the hawk. I recognize fully that the hawk has to eat and it’s not that I don’t like the sweet doves any less - I just haven’t named them.

Thanks, Marg. Our feathery friends can be characters,Sometimes funny and sometimes ferocious. In about a month the ravens will leave for the hills and mountains, and the gulls will move in, about the time the ice on the lakes goes out.
Great shot of the Coopers Marg. And a nice story
Wonderful shot and I love the narrative, Marg!

Thanks, Jim! By the way, I loved your conflict at the feeders shots. I’ve never seen an acorn woodpecker.
Those brats make for great entertainment.
