I just checked on it and it will be mid to late 2021 before it is available in my area. As soon as it’s available I’m having it.

If possible sign up now. We put our email in to starlink in dec, of 2020
They sent an email out in Feb. The neighbors who jumped on the email first thing in the AM got their system in days. We didn't open it until the evening and our system was 4 weeks out.

A new addition to the tech space called Theta is likely to play strongly in the future of broadband availability... something to watch in the time to come.

I have always heard that any satellite system must have latency time issues due to the distances involved.

Actually Starlink satellites are LEO (low earth orbit) “birds”, so the distance and latency is very low compared to conventional satellites in a MUCH higher geosynchronous orbit.

Edit: I see that I’m late to the party and the question has already been answered. As an addendum, if Spectrum continues to raise their prices and if their reliability doesn’t improve, I may switch to Starlink anyway

A friend has one on his moored boat. Even though it rocks a bit the ground station never looses touch. Can't wait for my Comcast subscription to expire.

Very interesting. How does Starlink work? I understand there are hundreds of satellites covering every square inch of the planet but does your device connect directly to one or more satellites or is it picked up and amplified by a cell tower and then relayed to and from the satellites?

I wonder if it's an option for those of us well covered by the traditional services but who would like to get away from their expense. What does this cost you per month and do you need any special software or hardware for it?

Good questions that I am sure many of us are interested in the answers to.
