Now some media sources are predicting a forthcoming tp shortage due to the Suez Canal blockage. How much of our tp supply is foreign sourced? I though most was domestic produced. Let the hoarding begin!
If the "predicted shortage" keeps being propagated, it will happen.
Everyone will panic (again) and start scarfing it up, thereby creating another shortage.
How many people are still using the TP stash they got last spring?????
Human nature stinks.
We use Kirkland TP, and it’s made either domestically or in Canada, so I don’t think that will be a problem. There may be a TP rush on Costco, though. I guess we’ll start seeing more ads for the bidets again.

Doesn't matter.
If people "panic buy" again, there will be a shortage of that brand also.
Our media is the worst enemy of the country. Anything for a catchy headline. They are nothing, but junkies, and very biased journalists. Somebody needs this reporting.

Last year we left Florida in April, a little later than usual, because of COVID. We asked our daughter to check how many rolls we had at home in NY. I usually buy at BJs so I knew we had plenty. She laughed because she estimated we had about 60 rolls. We probably still have about 1/2 that. (How much can two people use in a year.) She even took some because they were running out.
However, other things were tough to get.

I have little faith in our news reporting anymore, such bias.
I take most of it with a grain of salt.
Ever really listen to their inflections?
Everything is a catastrophe.

In the electronic edition of our local newspaper, ads pop up in whatever article you happen to be reading. Bidet ads, saying never wipe your butt again, with a diagram, have been common for quite a few weeks. It's very disconcerting when they pop up in obituaries where I'm expecting a picture of the deceased.

I suppose for some companies, marketing and sales take higher precedence than the news.
I also hate going to a site to see one article in particular and having a large pop-up come up that says "Sign up for our daily emails..."! They gotta get their readership up so the numbers look good for potential advertisers.

Panama Canal would worry me some....Suez, not so much. As for the press....As Mark Twain said in 1906, "There are only two forces that can carry light to all the corners of the globe – only two – the sun in the heavens and the Associated Press down here." The scope of information flow is much greater now (more venues than ever, some regulated some not), but if not for the "press" and reporting, most would never have any idea what (good/bad/or other) is going on in our world. Yes you sometimes have to check story sources, and many only read or watch news from venues that support their point of view (or have commentators they like) but.... those in the know look at and listen to the news from all sources, check stories, and dive a little deeper....I suggest that approach to all, you get a handle on who is inconsistent or even downright full fledged liars. It (lies, mis-truths, influencing, etc.) comes from all sides of the spectrum though - right, left and middle....from the rich and the poor, and the middle....same for the good news.
Now, if another ship get's stuck in the Panama Canal at the same time, that would be discerning..... As for toilet paper, if we stop making it in Canada and the US, that would really worry me, We don't buy TP from other continents, at least per the stated country of origin.
All that’s needed to start a TP shortage is an internet posting stating that says there’s going to be a TP shortage🥴

Sadly, yes, you are so right...

...and how would you know? Were you at the scene of the fire? Were you on the front line with the soldiers? Were you getting arrested because you were doing your job?
As a working journalist, I'm out there in the field, in the meeting room, in the neighborhoods. I don't sit behind a microphone in a studio somewhere and say things I know I can't get sued for, but bring in the big money from advertisers selling second rate bedding.
When you walk a few miles in my shoes, then I'll listen to you.
And, BTW, how do you "know" what's in your local paper is wrong? Or are you getting your "news" from all-purpose, all-knowing personalities who, lately, their own networks are disavowing?
...am stepping off the soapbox now.
