White House Considering Taxing You For Every Mile You Drive

T***sportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said on Friday that, among the avenues on the table being considered to help pay for a massive infrastructure proposal, is the possibility of vehicle mileage tax.

Since the passage of the $1.9 trillion C***D relief bill, there has been talk of a multi-trillion spending plan for infrastructure.

Buttigieg said, “When you think about infrastructure, it’s a classic example of the kind of investment that has a return on that investment. That’s one of many reasons why we think this is so important. This is a jobs vision as much as it is an infrastructure vision, a climate vision and more.”

One of the ways to pay for it could be to tax drivers for every mile they drive.
“A so-called vehicle-miles-traveled tax or mileage tax, wh**ever you want to call it, could be a way to do it,” Buttigieg said.

Don't know about nationally but the other Washington (the one with the second highest gas tax and the eighth worst roads) has been talking abut it for several years. Just another way for the uber liberal Democrats that run the state to tax and spend.

It’s just a covert operation to pay for the new arrivals.

Auto stores will come up with a device that attaches between your speedometer cable: two turns in - one turn out, or 3 turns in - 1 turns out, whichever tax rate you are comfortable with.

The feds already have us paying tax on each gallon of gas we purchase as well as the state. However these electric vehicles don't pay any taxes.

And then, the electric vehicles will pay one tax, and gas vehicles will pay two taxes...sounds fair...NOT.

We already have the Federal Highway Trust Fund to cover that, which all of us pay into via Federal excise tax on fuel, tires, truck & trailer sales, and heavy vehicle use.

The thing to look at though is who is offering the technology which would be used to comply with the mileage tax. Who are they lobbying for the Fed gov to adopt this new method of taxing the populace? This type of tax would be very disproportional in regards to affordability. For instance, there are many not so well paid homecare workers who will get hammered with such a tax due to the large number of miles they travel regularly to take care of people.
