Thanks Longshadow. The population density is sparse now, so I wouldn’t guess it was very much then either. The church is about 5 miles east of Fort Payne...back in the day it must have been an adventure to get down the mountain to town, I think the signs on the highway call it an 8% grade. I can’t imagine horses or mules being able to hold a wagon back going down a hill that steep unless the wagon was tied off by block and tackle.
