Hulu - I Gave Up

I signed on for the free month of Hulu, with the $5.95 "commercials" plan. That was a mistake. I quickly switched to the "no commercials" plan for $6.00 more. Unfortunately, after watching about four hours, over a period of a few days, Hulu was no longer able to stay connected. It would play for a few seconds and then say it had a problem. Netflix and everything else worked, so it had to be a Hulu problem.

I went online this morning and canceled it. It said that I could watch for the rest of the time I had paid for. I saw that my cc had been charged the full amount for the month. What about the free trial? Doing a Chat, I learned that switching from commercial to non-commercial voided the free trial. Surprise! Anyway, they gave me a full refund, and I'll forget about Hulu.

It could be the device you had Hulu loaded on? We have hulu loaded on: Samsung TV, LG TV, FireTV, Playstation 3, and Playstation 4. The only device we have issues with it on is the FireTV with all others working great.

I've been watching it on a Samsung. It worked fine for about four hours, but then it started stopping. It did seem to work on the computer, but I prefer watching TV on a TV. All the other streamers stream fine. I have enough to watch without Hulu.

Is there an available update to the Hulu app on the Samsung TV?

Yeah, for sure. If you don't see any value, or for whatever reason it doesn't work you by all means I wouldn't keep it around.

As for the other question about an updated app, I have a Samsung 50" 4K 7 Series in the office and Hulu is running pretty much all day while I work and I haven't seen any update notices, or had issues. But each TV could be different.

We have an LG OLED TV and HULU. Seems to work fine most of the time, but occasionally there’s a programming error, but it’s not much of a problem. We also have the $6.95 version. Problem is, all the programming is old. Right now I’m re-watching the Stargate SG-1 series.

ABC, NBC, and I think FOX provide new content weekly from their current broadcasted shows. They do have a lot of archived TV series and movies from several broadcasting companies which is nice to go back and re-watch old shows. We currently started our 22 season marathon of Law & Order SVU while our DVR fills back up.

I have several free tv apps. Pluto, tbs, free cable TV and trends movies. All work most of the time. I also have xfinity wi-fi with basic cable, costs me $115.00 a month.

We had the same issue with Hulu. Constantly buffering, usually at the worst moment.
Switched to YouTube tv and haven’t looked back

We’ve considered going to YouTube TV, too.

I have no issues with You Tube TV, and like a lot of their features. I watch on a 24" Vizio smart tv that had the app already installed. My internet speed is more than adequate and pretty reliable.

They are not cheap, though, and their price increased a few months ago. If you watch a lot of television, there are something like 70 channels now + unlimited free DVR storage.

I don't really get my money's worth since I'm mainly interested in MLB and college basketball They have almost all the sports channels, including some locals like Big 10, ACC and SEC. Alas, no Pac 12. You can cancel or pause whenever you like (at end of a billing cycle) - no minimum subscription time required.

We had AT&T TV which used to be DirectTV Now, but cancelled that because it was expensive and getting more expensive, and we didn’t watch 90% of the programming. We switched to Hulu, but that was about the same, and now we have an abbreviated version of Hulu which doesn’t have local stations or current programs. We can watch them without commercials after the fact. Seems the less TV we watch the less we care about it. We do like some of the cooking channels, though.

We went through everything.
Ended up with Roku and very happy.
Bought Sling upgrade version and Philo (for my wife's Hallmark).
I found myself watching Pluto TV more than anything...which surprised me.
We have Amazon prime (the shipping savings pays for everything you get with prime).
Netflix is borrowed (yes, you can do that...with Amazon too).

In the end...quit Sling and kept everything else. It's about 30 a month and Roku gives you tons of really good free content. They just keep adding content...momentum.

I have also had issues with Hulu and like you experienced and again like you no issues with Netflix and other streaming video services.

Having plenty of time, I researched and worked on the problem for several weeks and finally discovered that it was a problem with my Samsung TV's firmware. Since the TV is several years old, that model is no longer supported with upgrades, so I am stuck with what I have. My wife really enjoys Hulu so we live with its frustrations.

I actually discovered the problem while trying to set up Discovery+ streaming. The Samsung TV would not properly stream Discovery+ and I eventually traced it to the Samsung. In fact the Discovery+ help center told me there were known issues with certain Samsung TV's. However, I was able to stream Discovery+ by attaching a Roku device to the TV and streaming through it, no problems since.

I have not tried streaming Hulu through the Roku device but that may fix its problems as well.

Good Luck.
