There is a herd of about 2000 Bison on about 40000 acres of protected tall grass prairie near Pawhuska, Ok. No fences and the Bison have free run. Have to be careful.

Good capture. I liked it better when they were called Buffalo. I mean if you stop and think about it for minute 'Bison Bill Cody' somehow just doesn't have the same ring.

Nice photo! In case any of us have the same opportunity, how did you get so close without without upsetting them?

I was in my truck about twenty feet away. Like I said, there are no fences and they are not scared of people. But I did not want to get out of my vehicle. They were right next to the road.

Thanks, good to know. Sounds like the way to go for night photographers in the wild, too

Buffalo and bison are distinct animals. "true" buffalo are native to Africa and Asia. Bison are found in North America and Europe.

Both are in the "bovidae" family but are not that closely related.

Pretty nice shot, but since you asked for CC I can't find your focus point. Maybe the tall grass in front of the bison? The eye is always good if it would focus or at f/9 the horn may be easier.
