I had mentioned to poster of recent Baxter park & Mt Katahdin winter pictures it reminded me of a hike 8 years ago

gone 1.2 miles - 4.8 to go, to Daicey Pond Baxter St park

MLK day 2013 - headed back to cars- 6miles OAT = +/-15 below 0 & on lake 12 to 15mph breeze

NO running water, bring your own cook stove , pots, food, bed linens or DOWN Sleeping bag, park ranger would not tell us if the source of water was open ( a spring & stream) so I brought an ice chisel...... didnt need it.
We have many more images too many for here & one day light was a dull gray for 1/2 of the day - nothing worth posting .
On the last day - hike out day we woke to -22 F on the outside thermometer it warmed some by the time we left- but the wind chill on the lake was brutal until we got into the woods & on the trail.

I couldn't handle the cold but you got some lovely shots to provide memories. The woods, cabin and lake look like a wonderful place to spend time!

the cabins are on posts nice breeze under the floor .... no insulation, old newspaper stuffed in some of the cracks..... big old wood stove that the 4 of us, that shared our cabin took turns stuffing full of wood about every 3 to 4 hours ...... other wise someone would wake up after 6 hours - grumbling it was getting COLD inside.
Its great when I needed to get up to escort wife to outhouse in middle of night & it is some where south of zero... ... boots, coat, hat, mittens ........ you should have heard her statement when I said ..... no honey you go to the out house ..... sorry dear , I 'm stepping off the steps..... dont linger please !!!
