There are many great pictures show here. I for one, would gain a lot of learning from the exhibitors here if they would include technical info with there photo's. ie camera model, lens used, camera settings. etc. I know it would be a lot of trouble but it would be a great benefit to us armature shooter to have this info. Maybe the system could provide a form to fill out, when loading a photo, to expedite the process. Just a suggestion from an avid user. Thanks for letting me vent!!!

If there is a download check the EXIF.

Standard JPEG files have an EXIF (EXtended Information File) embedded in their “file wrappers” beside the JFIF (JPEG Format Information File).

When a photographer posts a downloadable file here, chances are that the JPEG will contain, in the EXIF, the information you seek. All you need is an operating system that reads and displays this metadata, OR an imaging application that displays it.

If you have a Mac, Apple Preview (included with MacOS) displays EXIF data tables.

Mike, this has been brought up before but it is not practical to ask every poster to provide all the information for each photo. If there is a particular photo you are interest in, you can as the poster by PM. Also, as mentioned before, if download is available you can then check the exif information on your computer.

Mike, that is an interesting request and I can see why you, and others, might make it. However, how would knowing my technical information assist you in taking your photographs? In fact, it could be very misleading.

But a learning process. If nothing else it helps to evaluate equipment.

As others have said it's in the EXIF data and I never touch the EXIF data but I do think they are useless as a learning tool.

More often than not, all the technical data is there for you to access and read. If you want that data, obtain the software needed to read the data and then begin to access and review that data on your own time. I'm not filling out any forms for your benefit. No one else will either. Learning to read the EXIF data yourself is your job. Get started.

Well, that is you, but EXIF can explain many things... (focusing blur, low/high speed effect, under/over exposure and the like).

If you look at Bob's EXIF can be... Interesting, especially if the image is green and grossly over exposed in appearance... But Bob is a nearly unique case, at least on UHH. He is the epitome of shooting for post-processing.

What most folks do not understand or no not want to understand that creating a photograph is a process and the capture's EXIF only the start.

I think the EXIF data is not as useful as post processing can change everything.

As others have pointed out, the information you have inquired about is contained in the EXIF data with the photo. But, I would note that information isn't often useful. It could be, for, say, macro work or high-speed sports photos. However, usually, the shutter speed, ISO, and aperture is determined by the conditions at the time. As a result, replicating them could result in a poor exposure under non-identical conditions.

IF the EXIF data is present, it won't indicate how the image was edited.
Lighter, darker, color saturation, white balance, etc. - The EXIF data could all be misleading.
If you really have to know, why not PM the poster to discuss the image?
