I have a 35mm camera that gives me fabulous results. It is a Minolta AL-F.I have had this camera for many years now. The image counter doesn't work now, so I have to be diligent and keep track of the shots. I have never had a telephoto lens so have always relied on the cameras view of the subject. Always in focus, very quick to capture the image.I will keep it and use it as long as there is film available.Unfortunately though,it seems that 35mm cameras are not the items of the day and take a back seat to digital cameras. Too bad!

Welcome to our forum! Although there isn't much discussion of film here, there are some questions and comments. Perhaps you can give someone advice one of these days.

Thank you for the invite to join the forum. I am by no means an expert photographer. But if I am asked a question, then I will give it my best shot.
I do a lot of across the dashboard shots and with a camera that can catch the image instantly, I am very seldom dissapointed. Winter is coming, and there are many opportunities out there.

Boy, that looks too familiar. I hope you didn't take that recently. :D

Not recent. I drive extensively throughout southern Ontario. All seasons-all weather conditions. I have many shots like this. Mostly 2006,2007,2008. Hwy 11-Toronto to North Bay, Hwy 400-Toronto to Sudbury via Hwy 69, Hwy 115-towards Peterborough, Hwy 17-Sudbury to North Bay, Hwy 69-Parry Sound and Beyond, hwy 63- North Bay to Timiskaming Quebec along the Ottawa River..did I leave out any??

This was taken at a private residence south of Peterborough,Ontario. Above this waterfall is a small body of water that at one time was part of a lunber mill. At the top of this waterfall are the remains of a dam. Some portions of a llong ago saw mill still exist here.

Do you know the town of Callander, Ontario? A freind of mine was born there and moved to NY when he was a kid.

I know the area, but I am not overly familiar with the particular municipality. I do know though that highway widening and on-going construction is leaving small communities like this by the way-side. A blog post that I created a few years ago was dedicated to this particular subject. I may revise and update the post and send it out again.

One thing I remember him talking about is the Dionne quintuplets, who were born near there. Funny how things come back to the memory.

To reply to the message regarding the cabin in the woods displayed in the first photograph. I neglected to say that I didn't know that cabin was in the picture until I downloaded it and cropped the image. Hidden treasures? Maybe.
Further to your last statement regarding the Dionne Quints:Just north of the hwy 17 ramp from hwy 11 in North Bay is a cabin that was open to tourism a few years ago. There were photos and other information regarding the Dionne Quintuplets. I don't know if it is still open, but if memory serves me, I believe that this cabin was moved from another location and set in the current spot for tourists. I have never really delved into it. I do have a photograph of this cabin taken from the highway as I drove by. A new Home Depot store was being built behind the cabin. I will locate the photo and post it at a later date.

Some young people still use film
This shot was from yesterday. I didn't get to talk to her. Dang.
I did talk to a gal, maybe 22, on the Muni earlier in the day after I recognized a Nikon Ftn hanging from her shoulder. She wasn't interested in my new digital camera.

I located the photograph. The image is quite large [1187x784] so it may not display properly. Beyond the light standard to the left you may see a hint of orange color. This is a portion of the Home Depot facade still under construction at the time of this photo.

I get reasonable results from my digital camera. I have an Olympus A850. The stop action works great provided I don't pan.A steady hand of course helps too. A few years ago,I had a Nikon ( I don't recall the model ) plus a power zoom lens. I also used a 2X adapter. It was a very good camera that I set up on a tripod. The one issue I had with this camera was the heavy click of the shutter. The sound scared away whatever was out there so one shot was about all I could expect at any time. I hope the camera found a good home.

Speaking about " old cameras ",I still have a Sony Mavica with only 2 mega pixels and the pictures are sharp and clear.

Nikon still makes a film camera, a very nice 35mm and I still shoot film with my canon F-1n with excellent results. For back country trips where there is not power to charge batteries or power computers film is still the answer. thx jb

Hmm Looks like your camera is giving you a 'Snow Job' :-)

Re taking the photo across the dashboard - often there are 'pictures' to take when it is not safe, or legal to get out of the vehicle. This is when the "Auto" mode on a point-and-shoot camera is an advantage.

You had snow at the north end of hwy 11 - this is a 'through the glass' photo from further South, near Pigeon Lake.
