I was reading about different things to do if you don't have tripod. I had a number of cloth bags made up a number of years ago and had a strip of velcro on them to hold them closed. You can then fill them with anything that is handy and not worry about a lot of extra weight. Make them any size that you think is right for your camera. This is my first post
Don. welcome.
I like the idea of empty bags you could fill with sand or whatever...especially for saving weight and space while humping gear. thanks.

Speaking of empty bags---gallon re-sealable freezer bags (either zippered or snap-seal strips)will work as well.
Just don't try to get a sock filled with sand onto a plane.
On another web site I saw where a guy gave a way to get by when you don't have a tripod he said to carry with you a short bolt that will fit in your camera, a peice of string and a washer.Yuu tie the string to the bolt and the washer.
the string should be just long enouth to reach from where you are comforbale. by standing on the washer and pulling up on the string you will be able to hold your camera study enouth to get your shot. don't remember the guys name. wish I did so I could give credit or blame where it is due.
