It won't do what the D7200, long lens and extender will for wildlife. It won't do the extreme crops for bugs I can do with the D810. Otherwise, the thing continues to amaze. One from the first set that looked better second time around, and a few of clouds with needed rain incoming.

I don't know why you are surprised quixdraw. When you move into the Nikon single digit cameras, F3, 4, 5 or D3, 4, 5, or 6 you are getting the best technology available at the time.

Disclaimer:

I am a just a curmudgeonly old iconoclast who still believes that when a great picture is achieved it is first the photographer, then the glass and only last the camera. Of course I could be wrong.

I heavily used and still have all the film Nikons from Photomic FTn up to F5. Wonderful! The D3 is the first Pro Digital I have owned /used, ex. the D2x, still a fine camera, but of a different era. The Prosumer cameras are excellent, but there is an element of Magic in this D3. Been doing photography for a very long time, not a bad photographer, but I'm amazed. May have to rent a D6 - sure can't afford one, and don't need one. Thanks for commenting, appreciate your input.

Quixdraw, I had a Nikon D3 that I traded in for a D810 simply because I wanted to try my hand at video...which I only did once. Frankly, I wish I had it back for it was an amazing camera and it could take a lick'n and keep on click'n.

I didn't have the number of sensor pixels as the D810 however the ones that it had were big and they could see perfectly every time. The physical presence of the camera was impressive and when folks would see me with it they believed me to be a pro...rather than a schmo.

I'm confident that you will enjoy it and should you ever be out in the wilderness and be attacked by a bear you can use the D3 to beat it off you and just wipe the blood off the camera and keep on shooting.

I live in the Wilderness - can likely work things out. Did come close to having to wack a guy with my Df in Santa Fe - story for another day!

Gorgeous images QD with wonderful color! You're going to have fun with this camera.

The D3 series of Nikons will give you amazing images SOOC with very little need for processing. Attached is an example from my wedding days.

Really nice photos QD. I don't know if I could convince myself to go back to low pixel count after going full frame, but the idea of an armored brick for a camera is appealing. My first digital SLR was a D200. Still have it and still use it and still love it but it just can't keep up with the D850.

I love my D3. Whenever I send my D810 in for a CLA I go back to my D3. It still feels so right in my hands (shutter count is over 580,000)
