I'm brand new to this forum, and have one question: I'm just getting a new iMac 27", and need a decent editing program. Would you recommend the $89. version or the $258. version..?

That doesn't look like the correct pricing - just checked on Skylum for UK prices

£54 for Luminar 4 (Single computer)
£79 for Luminar AI (2 computers)

There are several reviewers/instructors on YouTube that provide a discount code too - Google Jim Nix or Anthony Turnham. You can get either or both products on money back trial so nothing to lose.

54 GB Pounds is about 89 of your dollars for L4 and and 137 Canadian Dollars for Luminar AI (2 licences) then and not 258. They are very similar in price given the 2 licences for AI and one for L4.

As they are download delivery you can shop around and buy at best offer price (be sure to buy from Skylum though) - remember to get the discount code too as explained. Good luck my friend.

Whichever one you do, be sure to leave yourself enough time to conduct an intensive evaluation process at least during the first one week that you own the software. You will want to make a quick decision as to whether or not you should actually ask for a refund or, are you going to be willing to keep the software.

I have been an owner of both and, back in December when I got the AI, I learned real quick that for me, it had major, major flaws. Menu items would not show up and when I display the screen with Canon raw 3 files, the images were totally uneditable. Now, having said that there are many other individuals who have had great luck with it. As for me, within two weeks I made a decision to request and did receive a full refund

I'm trying to give you a heads up because, tech support for the company is basically very slow and you may get frustrated because it takes them anywhere from 48 hours to 72 hours to respond to any email and they have absolutely no, I repeat they have no telephone support whatsoever.

I am still an owner of luminar 4, but it's my understanding that in the near-term, that software will be phased out because, with a company being small of less than 140 to 150 employees over the entire world, they have no intention of continuing to support that version of the software.

Again let me repeat, the software may work well for you, just be very cautious. Take time to do intensive research and evaluation on the software in the first 7 to 10 days that you do on it

I do wish you all the best my friend

Cheers

IMHO, get Luminar AI. Luminar 4 is old but it does have layers which come in handy on occasion. But I’m sure support is coming to an end.

I am not sure what that amount covers. If it includes both Luminar 4 and AI, you can't use them both because the catalog is different in AI from the one used in 4.

Currently I see AI for 79.00 and the membership is 59.00 on sale.

Does that include Aurora HDR? That is Skylums photo stacking software. If you do photostacks you can look at that. I personally use Helicon for that but the skylum software is also good.

If it includes all that you should go for it.
