Another shot of the Cooper's Hawk from yesterday.
In this case glaring at me as if to say I caused the missed lunch because my potted plant was in the way.
Well actually the hawk did have to dodge a large potted plant when it made its failed strike.
So I guess I deserve the glare.

Still a very nice portrait. The majority of deaths in first year raptors is starvation. They receive no training from their parents. Making the kill is completely instinctual. I have no data to support this but I suspect that the survival rate for first year Cooper's Hawks is higher in urban neighborhoods where where potential pray are concentrated around feeders, giving the young hawks a higher success rate.

Thank you.
I knew that about young raptors and #2 is infected injuries or illness exacerbated by malnutrition before they can die of starvation alone.
This individual is mature=red eyes and chest/belly markings.

Very nice portrait. I love the face in download. I don’t know who the intended victim was, but some little being is probably thanking you for providing cover!

Thanks, it was a small group of about 5 or 6 Eurasian Collared Doves eating bird seed on top of a block retaining wall.
