Hi all- recently returned from a winter Yellowstone tour. Wanted to share some photos with other travelers. I have all their emails. I made 3 "albums" on Google Photos of roughly 145 photos in each album. I copied the address link to each album and sent them off to the travelers. Some folks can access and see the photos, some have said the "file did not exist" per google, some were not able to open the files at all. When I send the links to myself or my wife, different email accounts, they turn up fine. Is it necessary for the recipient to also have a Google account in order to open the links? Or what else can I do so these people can view the pictures? Google does not give any clear instructions on how to do this. They mention "sharing" in various ways but it does not describe what I wish to accomplish. Thanks!

Not having a google account a likely reason. A free sharesite like Flickr is another option. You can have up to 1000 images for free, although there may be daily limits for how many images you can upload / post to a free Flickr account on a per calendar date basis.

Also 'free' is Dropbox where you can send a download link to access the images. This 'free' option is limited to 2GB, so you man need to look at the file sizes / pixel resolution you're using to share the images. Dropbox is the share the files, not to view the files.

Your links may be too technical challenging, consider your audience as you consider each option. Are you trying to 'give' them the files or just let them 'see' the images? A display option like Flickr, or even your FB page, might be a better share option to simply display the files.

Consider too if 145 files is the proper amount? Should you be more aggressive in culling these images, either for a pleasant viewing experience or to minimize the combined size of the images being shared.

Unless one needs a GOOGLE account like Paul said,
if those people are hand typing the URL, ........
ALL URL information after the domain is case sensitive.

The combined files size total is 1.2G. I had split up the files into 3 separate email sendings so folks would not get overwhelmed. There were 2 other photo-types that also did pictures, they had shared with DropBox. I have not tried Flickr for anything yet. I just want the folks to view the photos for their memories and enjoyment, all they have to do is click on the blue highlighted link to get to the site. Can Flickr be accessed or shared the way I want? Thanks for your suggestions! Is Chicago warming up yet? I grew up there and have never missed it since we moved away, returning only for occasional family visits and funerals.

We had 2+ inches snow Monday ...

Flickr lets you create an album-based organization and share a link to the album. You can control the security settings on the images for whether they can be downloaded or only viewed, as well as how large the images can be viewed. I've been paying for an account now for several years so I'm a bit less familiar on the usage limitations to the free accounts.

Anyone should be able to access your albums. I do that very often. I suspect there is a problem with the people receiving them.

Yes, it should work.

I set up with Flickr, made 3 albums, sent out an email telling the people of that and they don't need a Flickr account to access the photos. I used my name for them to look for, michaelpodlusky , to find the pictures. I hope that works. Is there anything else I would need to do for them to see these pictures?

Here's an example link to the first album: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmUTDcyD

When you open the album view in Flickr, there's a curved arrow in the lower right corner of each Album cover 'icon' (also in the heading when inside the album). Click that 'share' icon to generate the link you can then email as a direct click-link to the album.

If you get to the point of sharing some of the images to here on UHH, you can also use that Flickr 'linking technology' to embed the images as links into the text of a post. When viewing individual images within Flickr, that curved arrow again appears in the lower right, just below the image. There are several share options, use the BBCODE. Then, select a size for the image. I've found the large at 1600pixel wide is a good fit for most people using screens 1920pixels wide. Just cut n past the resulting URL text into UHH, such as:

DSC_7708 (2) by michaelpodlusky, on Flickr

As text, you can also continue adding more text below the image, allowing you to create a series of images intermingled with comments and context. You can also 'reformat' that generated URL code. I prefer to see the image title and photographer 'above' the image rather than 'behind' like Flickr generates to code. I just cut and repast the code to move the title and author link above the image link. If you press the "show tags" link below a UHH text-box when editing / writing, you can see the format of all the various URL link options.

OK, this finally makes sense now. Thank you for this tip! Don't know why Flickr does not tell you exactly how to do that- maybe I missed it... thanks

Thanks Paul- but if you found the photos before I learned of the "curved arrow share", then the other folks should be able to find it also??

I do this often. I prefer to create and copy a link, rather than just 'share' directly. I then paste the link into each email. I also send via Gmail or google drive. I think that's important.
There's also We Transfer and,as mentioned, Dropbox.

I'm what you might call an Experienced Flickr user? You might send a follow-up with the three album links. If you work in MS Outlook or similar email tool, you could even 'name' the link like you can do here too:

Yellowstone Tour Album #1

But, that's just me ...

Thanks everyone for help figuring this out. I merely used the album links, want to keep it as simple as I can!
