I'm bringing Big Red to the repair guy today. He's back in business. I've been using this Dell, while the big guy sits unused. For some reason, it can't find the monitor when it wakes up. "HDMI input not found. Going into sleep mode." I swapped cables, monitors, and USB ports - no luck.

Some computers have everything on the mother board.
IF there is a slot for another card, the on-board graphics will have to be disabled.
One of my OLD computers was a jumper to do so.

Everything is on the mother board now.

I tried both the card and the connection on the board.

Any Capacitors blow on the monitor's main board, they are a simple check and fix if it's the cause. I had Samsung monitor that wasn't being detected, I opened it up cause it was buco bucks to send to CA. for repair. I found 5-6 blown capacitors, (capacitors with a domed top, I think due to a power surge)...I ordered replacements on line for about $10. Un-soldered the blown capacitors and replaced with the new. It's been a few yrs now and still working.

Ah so! An eraser would have solved you problem.

Every now and then my Dell XPS 8900 does not access the monitor when it wakes up. Unplugging/replugging the monitor's power cord has worked every time.

As it has on many occasions.

I'm on a Dell 8930 now, and when it wakes up, it usually says it can't find the monitor; then it finds it. I don't like that.
