On a photo walk, I once saw a road sign that said "This sign is not in use". If it had been an electronic (readerboard) sign, it might have made sense but this sign was permanently mounted on a large diameter metal pipe pole cast into a concreted base. The sign itself was red with white lettering and a 1 inch black border all around it 's edges. Th sign was on thick aluminum plate material and was perhaps 18" by 3.5 feet.
