Anyone have any experience with or opinion of the Nikon p950? Ihave a canon 80D with sigma 600mm lens but being older it's way to heavy without a tripod. My wife has a Canon powershot sx70hs and gets great pix, trying to go a step further but worried about pic quality after editing.

Both the P900 and P950 are good cameras, but have been trouble prone. There was a thread recently in which the OP was experiencing problems with his P950. He sent it in and it was fixed. He got it back and it malfunctioned again. I believe he has sent it in for repairs yet again. I don’t know what the status of that is just yet.

On the other hand, the number of problems encountered are few and far between, given the number of those cameras currently owned. I have owned a P900 going on two years now and have had no problems with it.

You might want to consider this Sony with a 1" sensor.

The sensor in the Nikon is 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55 mm)

CAMERA SENSOR SIZE AFFECTS:
Image quality and resolution
Depth of field
Angle of view
Low-light performance
Size of camera and lenses

The Sony RX10 Mark IV mentioned has what is known as a 1" sensor. It is smaller than the sensor in a DSLR, but considerably larger than the sensor in a point and shoot, including some of the super zoom cameras. Many of the super zooms such as the Canon and Nikon you mentioned, have a tiny 1/2.3 sensor. Sensor size directly relates to the better image quality you are looking for in a super zoom camera.

I have the Nikon p950. Yes i had to send in for repairs twice in 6 months of ownership. (New lens and viewfinder).
Its been repaired and now is working fine.
The zoom range is amazing 20-2000, and has a bird scene mode that aids in bird photography.
The current Sony rx10-Iv is limited to 600.

I have been relatively happy with many of my photos.

I have it listed for sale now on UHH. As i ordered a used Nikon full-frame camera from another member. I am looking for higher resolution and low-light performance among other things.

I would be happy to answer and specific answers you may have about the P950

Jim

I have the sony RV10 IV...amazing camera. It is not my only camera. It's mainly used for those times when I go out to photograph references for my paintings. I have the ability to go from 24mm-600mm(35mm equivalent) in a convenient package. It's lightweight, and the 1" sensor is wonderful. For my street photography, I use Fuji XE cameras with a 27mm lens(40mm equivalent).

After I hit 75, I decided that all that gear was just too heavy. I sold all my Canon gear, three cameras and lots of red line lenses. My first purchase was a Sony RX10 Model IV. Recently, I purchased the Nikon P1000 because of the reach. I am very happy with the purchase and I don't notice much of a difference between the images produced by Canon and the images produced by Nikon. Good luck!

I was seriously considering the P950 vs the Leica V-LUX typ114 (I know the V-LUX series is Panasonic). I opted for the Leica with a 1" sensor. I just ordered it yesterday, and hope to have it in my hands in a few days. While the P950 has a longer reach, it also has a much smaller sensor.
