I'm thinking about selling my 7D and related lenses to upgrade to a Mark ii with the 24-105 kit lens. I'm thinking I could sell my old stuff to pay for the new one. Any tips or ideas would help. If I don't go full frame soon I'll be buying more lenses for my 7D.

I have a 50D with a D60 sidekick using the same lenses.
I don't see a need to upgrade to a full frame camera.
So can I talk you into staying with your 7D and go with some great lenses ??

If it was one or the other for me, I would go with better L lenses.
The new 24-702.8L and 70-200 2.8 L. After you get all the Lenses you need get the camera then. Lens makes more of a difference than camera everytime.

I have a 70-300mm lens now for zoom. Why would the 70-200 be better?

It is kinda hard, typically when I sell my used equipment I advertise it on craigslist for my city, you can also often find some local online advertising sites for used camera gear... I don't know if you are a member of a meetup group but you that is another thing that you might try... When all else fails I sell it on ebay where you really seem to get the best price but then you will spend close to 15% of the total transaction between ebay and paypal.

You must have some really great lenses if you think that you can purchase a full frame and an L lens for the money you will get for your 7D and related gear... I would think that the 7D body would bring somewhere around a grand or so, not much more than that.

You already have the 7D why would you buy the 5DMKII?

For the same reason.

The 70-200 and the new 24-70 is about the sharpest lens canon makes. You will get a sharper image at F5(out to 200) with the 70-200. I own the older 75-300. The comparison is not even close.

You will get better images with the 70-200 on a 7D than a 5DMKII with your 70-300 and you will get about the same Zoom because of the crop sensor of the 7D.

7D at 200MM = 1.6 X 200 = 320MM

Quality glass will last you a very long time. It's a better investment.
I'm not saying don't buy a 5DMKII. I just would buy good glass first. I never use my 24-105 kit lens anymore.

I'd buy a 70200F2.8 without IS and the 24-70mm and with a 7d, you wouldn't need another lens!

It's a better lens and will give you much better images, imo.

I concur, quality lenses will net you better pictures with the 7D. 7D is a phenomenal camera with plenty of detail when used with L glass. I personally can't see the difference in the image from a 7D and 5DMKII on screen or in a print. Maybe if you print very large like 24X36, you may be able to tell the difference but not enough for the price difference.

Why don't you upgrade to a Mark III, from what I understand the focus is better than the II. I went from a 40D to the Mark III. I kept my 40D for backup and for the crop sensor when I needed more length. I gave my 10D which was my old backup to my husband

It depends which 70-300 he has. If he has the 70-300L, the 70-200 would not be an upgrade.

George,
I've also got a 7D and a number of Canon lenses. I shoot mostly wildlife and enjoy the benefits of the 1.6 factor. I recommend spending the money on the glass, and would also recommend that you consider adding a full frame body to your equipment, but keep the 7D. The 24-105 is a great lens which I use constantly. Hope this helps.

Because it is the sharpest zoom lens on the planet ! Regarding the 24-70 .....24 is not wide enough for crop frame, but OK on full frame.

What do you mainly shoot? Why the II and not go all the way to a III? Last, but not least what "L" lenses do you own?

If you do not own any "L" quality glass an upgrade to FF will be a total waste of money, imho. The 7D body is a great camera and really needs the quality glass to take advantage of it. The same goes for the FF bodies. If you do not have "L" quality lenses don't waste your time or money, go for the better lenses.
