Just returned from an October road trip through the backroads of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Upstate New York. Thanks to fellow UHH'er Timmy 77, who knows his beloved Finger Lakes region well and advised us on the prime photo ops, we had a fabulous time. Thanks Timmy!
I went absolutely photo-crazy in Watkins Glen, and here is where I would love to have your help. My images seem to have a fair amount of noise and I am wondering, could that be caused by using a neutral density filter? Or is it time for a new camera : )- (Taken with Panasonic G10, 14-140 lens) Your C & C is welcome.
ISO 100, f/22, 50 sec
ISO 100, f/18, 8 sec
ISO 200, f/22, 25 sec
ISO 100, f/18, 6 sec
ISO 200, f/22, 1.6 sec
ISO 100, f/18, 20 sec

Yes you most certainly need to send me your old Camera and get a nice shiney new one.
Serioisly, the photos you show are really good.
No new camera for me, sad to say!
Ian
Very nice photographs
Do you mean a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G10? That is a 4/3 sensor system (approximately half the size of a standard APS-C sensor) with a pixel count of 12.1 Mp. You should have decent resolution at ISO 100. Is your camera set for JPG fine, or lesser resolution capture?

First of all, I think your posted images are beautiful and I personally do not see any that are spoiled by noise. Long exposures have a tendency to increase the chances of noise, so that may be what you are experiencing here. 8-)
Don't think you need a new camera. These are beautiful!

Yes, Nikonian, it's the micro 4/3, 12.1 mp, set on raw. Not exactly a wanna-be landscape photographer's dream camera ; ).

Thanks, Bmac. I've noticed noise, on night photos and
Other long exposures too. So that is normal?

My husband will be happy to hear that! Thank you so much jeanbug!
Very nice pics of the Glen! They look great to me but if you want to dial down noise try Lightroom, works really well! Went by today and I think half the residents of Ontario were there!

Thank you, Paul. Mid week is apparently the time
to go - there were a just a few photogs there -
I had to wonder if they were fellow hoggers!
I don't have Lightroom, but am considering a noise reduction ap for Aperture.

Raw will give you the highest resolution, especially at ISO 100. I surmise that your noise is solely a product of long exposure, as has already been mentioned.

Well, kinda. You might want to try upping the ISO just a bit under those circumstances so you can use a shorter exposure time. It's like a balancing act, but, like I said, your photos look just fine.
