The bulb weight 2 lbs but no matter how much I tighten the screw the light slowly shifts down.
I have thought about grinding the surfaces with a dremel but maybe there is something better I never thought of.

There appears to be an insert in the outer set of pivots. If the insert is the tiniest bit too long the lock nut will never tighten enough to hold it. Carefully inspect the insert to be certain it does not protrude from its position at either end and impinge against its friction point in the other piece. My explanation may not be too clear, but think about it and you will "get" what I am saying.

You are right! Washers- old school! Time for a different approach with more up-to-date materials.

Dip the entire unit in Gorilla Glue or drill a small pilot hole and secure the mechanism with a Ram-Set spike! It won't lunge forward anymore.

Also- that thing ain't meant for a big, heavy LED light bulb with a dimmable circuit in the base. Get an ordinary Photoflood lamp or buy a good old-time Smith-Victor socket and reflector.

Finally someone looked at the TWO POUND bulb that this fixture was not designed to hold at any angle. Try a lighter bulb!
