I’m older and not so excited to lug around my 6D Mk II and lens on the upcoming trip to Hawaii. I’ve been there several times with important people in my life and pictures of how much we are enjoying our experience on the Pacific islands. So I’m shopping around for a point/shoot type (although even these are getting larger and as complex) to avoid the weight and bulkiness of it all. Because I am familiar with the Canon camera and nomenclature I honed in on the G7. What do you think?

I have the G7X II. I don't always lug around my full frame Nikon equipment and lenses when I'm on vacation. The Canon is almost perfect. The zoom range could be a bit longer. The lack of a viewfinder can be challenging in bright sunlight. On the other hand, it can fit into a large pocket, and the image quality is excellent for what it is. I always post this picture I took with mine to demonstrate that. Download to see more detail.

I can hardly wait to get started. Thank you everybody.

Got out this afternoon for a walk. If not for the G7 I would have walked without a camera. I am not lugging one of those huge expensive cameras when I go walking up and down the alleys in my neighborhood. So I put the G7 in my pocket as usual.

Two blocks from the house I noticed a new addition in one of my neighbor's yards. This is what the G7 is all about. How else do you get photos like this if you don't carry a camera. And the G7 is up to the task.

A few years ago, wife and I went on a European tour. To keep things light and compact I bought a Canon G1X. I was blown away with the image quality back then. Surely the newer models are even better. You might want to rent a new model to check it out.

I rented a G7X Mk II for a long hike in MT. I shot RAW and did PP in Lightroom. It did a great job. I bought the MkIII when it came out; probably has a little better autofocus. I carry the G7X in a camera holster on my belt whenever carrying my D850 or Z7 is not practical because rough terrain or don’t want to bring attention to myself in certain urban areas. The menus are not difficult, even though very different from my Nikons. I’ve had other small cameras that were too small for my hands. I like the G7X III and recommend it.

I was looking for a "travel camera" a little over a year ago. A viewfinder was a requirement, and I bought a G5X Mk II 13 months ago. I'm very happy with it and would not hesitate to make the same decision again. We're going on a two week ocean cruise and an 8 day Rhine cruise in 2022, plus several pre- and post-cruise extensions and I plan to bring my DSLR and the G5X. I will likely leave my DSLR (an 80D now, probably will be a 90D then) on the ship and wander around off-ship with the G5X. BTW, we've got 3 trips booked to Hawaii in the next 10 months and I'll probably only bring both cameras on one of them, with only the G5X on the other two.
