Considering consolidating my lens collection and this would take the place of 2 of my current regulars. It needs to be "Like new" or "excellent" condition.

Try one first. Not bad, but not a favorite.

Use one a lot, but it’s a heavy sucker.

So true, and that may work AGAINST your intentions to consolidate. That is what happened to me. It’s such a good do-it-all that I keep it around but the weight led me to pick up a 24-85 for when I do NOT anticipate needing FLs beyond 100mm, which is rather often.

You might consider a 24-120. Depends on how often you need anything more. But if the 28-300 really suits you, don’t let the haters scare you. They looooove to exaggerate (haters that looooove ?)

It’s a fine lens but not suitable for ultra anal narcissistic perfectionists who take offense that “their” marketplace offers any less-than-perfect products.

I know the attraction for getting one. I have one myself. There is no "Free Lunch". It IS fairly big and heavy. Images are better than OK considering how big a focal-length range it has. For shooting local stuff, I find it a good walk-around lens. For "images that really matter", I use 2 lenses with not-as-great a range from wide-to-tele.

The 24-120 is my everyday lens and I love it. My other is a 70-300 which is great (IMO) as well. It's rare that I need anything wider than 24mm and I have a 100mm macro for portraits flowers and bugs. I also have a 400mm for those rare occasions.

It's just that the 28-300 is rated very close or better than the 24-120 and would be more convenient for a similar price. The size is also similar but will check the weight.

Checked the weight. The 28-300 is only 4 ounces heavier.

My retired ophthalmologist has a D750 fitted with a 28-300 lens. That is the only lens he has.
The images he makes with that lens are of excellent quality.

I have one that I might part with if the price were right. I will take photos of it today and research pricing.

I have one and think it is the best all-around lens on the market. Like Camera4f said, the photos it takes are better than ok -- just shy of excellent. I mostly use the "Holy Trinity" of Nikon lenses but will put the 28-300 on when I want to go light and not carry a lot of weight in a backpack. It is a great lens for walking in the woods as it will do nicely for landscapes at the wide end and birds at the telephoto end. Also this lens will close focus to 12" even at 300mm. This takes the place of needing a macro lens so shooting mushrooms or other small objects found in a forest is possible. The people who do not recommend this lens have most likely not owned one.

Just sent this with another lens to UsedPhotoPro. I expect to hear from them in a day or so. If not acceptable, I'll contact you.

No hurry. I am a collector and will likely keep it. Currently I am doing more wildlife photography so it stays at home more.

I tend to go light and shoot in a variety of conditions. Carrying a lot of glass, and switching the lens wouldn't work for me. Until recently, I was using a 28-300 on virtually ever camera. This set up was perfect for moving through rough terrain, traveling in several countries, or shooting at events like judo tournaments, Sometimes I was a few feet from the shot and at others several hundred away. For my purposes the range, and elimination of other glass was the perfect choice. I should point out that my 28-300 glass are Tamaron. and left over from my days of using film. I still have 28-300 glass on my Nikons, and Sony A mount cameras I have recently at started using a Tamaron 18-400 to one of my full frame, E mount Sony 7 11. Since the newer lens and camera are considerably lighter, I may be using it as my primary set up. I had to put a Cannon to Sony E mount converter the 711. If you are using a Nikon, you won't have the problem. Tamoron makes an 18-400 for Nikon that you might want to consider.

I’ve been thinking about getting one of these as well, to pair with my D7500 (crop). My kit 18-140 is a bit short for shooting my 8 y/o’s performances and activities, but a borrowed 70-300 was too long as well. I know the IQ may be a little less than something with a shorter range, but I’m thinking for me it’s more about getting the shot than being a super pixel peeper.

If any of you decide your willing to part with one, and haven’t come to terms with the OP, let me know.
