Mirror lockup problem

I did a search, but didn't find a specific answer to my problem. I have Canon 6D and I do a lot of macrophotography (flowers). I have always used mirror lockup, but all of a sudden the mirror locks up no matter what the settings. I have to turn the camera off and back on to release the mirror. I shoot in AV mode. Is this likely something that I will have to send the camera back to Canon??

You did all the usual attempts ?
Battery, lens contacts, etc etc etc ?

Is one of your Custom mode positions unused ? If so, dial to it cuz it’s still at the as-shipped defaults. If that clears things up, you got user error.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Even if none are at factory default, dial to C-mode anyway. The memorized “C” configuration will prolly cancel anything you’ve done that causes the MU.

If this is not user error, then update or reload FW before you give up and send the problem to Canon.

Does the mirror lock up all by itself or when you do something (what).

when I press shutter, the shutter locks up. I turned off mirror-lockup and no problem.

That would have been my guess as that is an option on my old Canon.
Glad it was simple.

Macrophotography per se does not need mirror lockup, unless maybe if you are doing focus stacking. And even then it is not always necessary. I do macro focus stacking pretty regularly, and I never use mirror lockup. But others may find it helps in their system.
Anyway, perhaps you don't need it.
