Large turtle in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was lunch time.

A sunny day at the Viera Wetlands. Unfortunately I walked up on this scenario just as it happened. A fellow photographer explained that the hapless turtle walked right in front of the alligator. I only got to witness the crunching, chewing, and burping aftermath...

Nice shot - its teeth are whiter than mine - I guess it doesn't drink coffee!

In my opinion, alligators and crocodiles are something the world could do without.

I would have to disagree with you there.

Ah, give em a break...Alligators have been here for eons longer than us, hunted to near extinction here in Florida, they have made a good comeback. I've had the males/females cross through my backyard during mating season (they are pretty fiesty during that time) I have pics somewhere of a 6 footer in my backyard pond. Unless fed by humans, they are almost always afraid of us and go the other way, even in the water. Pets could be harmed though. They will eat Radio Control boats (well, will destroy one). When I worked Space Shuttle at KSC there was a canal between my building and the VAB that would full of babies several times a year...we'd toss pennies at the big mommas and watch them snap them out of mid-air!!!! Crocs- some salt crocs south of me, but I haven't seen any in my part of the St. Johns or in the Indian/Banana rivers.
