The Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels debut a F-16 Fighting Falcon and F/A-18 Super Hornet flight formation known as the “Super Delta” during a joint training evolution over Naval Air Facility
what a dangerous waste of money

What isn't dangerous? I'll make a sure bet there will be more people shot in my city tonight than will be experiencing departure of controlled flight over P'cola. As for a waste, it's PR. They inspire folks to serve or nation and possibly get up close and personal with anything aviation. Tom Cruise didn't cause an interest in naval aviation, it was the aircraft.
Not surprising to see the Navy taking the lead even in the air.

Amazing capture... very impressive
Fabulous shot.
The different paint jobs contribute to the illusion but I never realized how much bigger the F-18's are, than the F-16's. Of course the F-18's have two engines making them wider while the F-16's have only one.

My Mom's neighbor's boy went to see the Blue Angels when he was 11.
He became a fighter pilot for the Air Force. Retired a full bird Colonel.
It's a great recruitment tool. Money well spent.
Beautiful shot and I definitely love most things avaition related - and yes, I'm looking forward with huge enthusiasm to Top Gun 2 or whatever it will be called; and yes, I've been to air shows and will go again.
However, there is a valid 'but' in there: my understanding is that the running cost of each of those aircraft is, depending what you include, somewhere between $10,000 and $25,000 per hour.
That's a lot of tax dollars!
I've read that a couple of reasons the F35 is going to be considered a failure is that (a) it doesn't do all of was supposed to do, and (b) costs north of $40,000 per operating hour.

The F35 is an overpriced boondoggle.
