I have always been a gadget guy as much as a photographer. So, I like buy different cameras as they come out. I mainly have Nikon, Sony, and Fuji Film cameras and usually the trio of lenses that go with them in wide, medium and telephoto F2.8 ranges. Recently I jumped into the Olympus real specifically for the AI features only Olympus offers. Yesterday I was playing around with the Live ND (neutral density) capability of the camera. No filters attached to lens but camera adjusts up to 5 stops ND. You can even see the live preview of the motion created by water and such when taking the picture. I was impressed that I could get a decent shot handheld at 2.5 seconds and get the motion blur in the water. I will look forward to trying some of this as soon as our spring rains get the area water falls going again. Other features unique to Olympus that I have had fun with are Pro Capture, Live Composite, Live Capture each with specific uses. Live composite is good for product photography adding light or painting with light and being able to see real time the progress. Anyway here is an image of the Live ND handheld at 2.5 seconds, ISO 100, F16.

I am an avid Oly fan. I am about to get the same camera because of its fun tech. Each of the features you mentioned are what intrigues me. I cannot remember his name, but the Oly pro who specializes in bird photography says that the Pro mode has allowed him to get photos that he otherwise would not have captured. So, next time the Omd Em1 Mkiii goes on sale, I'm in.

Yea - I have the Olympus MK III - some my MK II last year and got the MK III - Great features. But don't forget top buy the Pro Lenses by Olympus. Costly, but well worth it. If you like Astro photography - the MK III does great, auto focus on the stars.
Enjoy. BTW - Olympus has not gone out of business, They just changed owners.

Always been an avid Oly fan from the film days - still have the film versions OM-4T, 2n, 2S - to me these were the greatest 35mm film SLRs ever made. Too bad the digital version of the company did not fare as well. Perhaps in the "afterlife" they will do better which would be ironic. I think the only mistake they made was not having a parallel FF line as well as the M4/3. The FF lenses would have been awesome on these cameras. Yeah have been considering going OM-D for quite some time - maybe the stimulus money will turn into GAS money?

Nice photo. I have two G9s & P/L lenses plus a solo Oly 12-100 f/4. In spite of the Oly ownership change I am tempted to get the Mk III. Thanks for sharing.

From my long ago half-frame 35mm Pen F on I've been an Oly fan. Still have my OM-2's and a few lenses. I own digital Nikons and Sonys and even a Pentax K5, but the camera most often by my side is my EM1-II (or my Mk I). The Olys (along with the Pentax) are what look and feel like "Real Cameras" to an oldtimer like me. It's my understanding that Olympus got into financial trouble because of shady dealings by their corporate heads -- not because of any problems with their cameras. Or with selling them. I believe the #1 selling system in Japan for 2020 was once again M4/3 -- As with cars, the Japanese seem to favor practical size and high quality where we in the U.S. just want BIG.

I switched to Olympus 3 or 4 years ago for the small size, light-weight gear that's easy to hike with. Recommended to me by a friend and professional photo guide for a nature travel company who had switched from Canon. I then became familiar with all the neat features and modes that are really a joy to use. Oly lenses are great. The Pro lenses are excellent quality at a fraction of the cost of equivalent full-frame lenses with the same view-angle and speed. I have the M1,II and will stick with it for now. The mark III sure has some nice additional features but don't really need them now for what I'm doing.

That camera, and similar Oly models, are on my list. I plan to pull the trigger for one of them once the Covid thing dies down and I am more certain of our families economics. The ProCapture and in-camera focus bracketing features are what drew me in, but the features you mention also seem interesting.

I too have become an Olympus fan. First it was the PEN-F, and now I have a OM D E 1 Markii. The full frame Canon system I have produces great photos. The features on the Olympus, that are built in, are really an advantage. For example, the built in keystone correction, the built in HDR, and as you say, the IS system really gives you so much flexibility. For trips by air the Olympus system wins hands down, as the entire kit fits in one medium size over the shoulder bag that itself can go into a roll-aboard. Thanks for your post. JimR

Count me in as an Oly fan too. I have an OM-D EM-1 Mark III and am dying to try some of the new features, especially starry sky since I can't seem to focus manually at my old age. The pro lenses have been worth the cost as they produce sharp sharp sharp images. The Olys have been perfect for travel.

I’m a delighted owner of the Oly m5 Mark III. I looked at the m1X but it went counter to why I switched from Nikon in the first place. The 5 III has nearly all the features— the fabulous stabilization, live composite, pro capture — of the m1 III and less expensive and lighter. I can hand hold at ISO 100, f/16 for milky water and tack sharp ice.

I have done handheld four seconds and have even seen a clean 10 second handheld by a professional using the E-M1 mkII. The mkIII has even better stabilization.

From what I understand, the newest Canon can IS up to 8 stops now. But it will cost one 4 or 5 times more than the Olympus to get it. That will be worth it for some, but just not worth it for me. I'll still be shooting with my mkII 4/3rds for less cost at 6.5 stops.

I suspect there is a E-M1X mkII coming out soon. They are getting rid of "excess" stock by discounting. I just hope it will be in the 24 / 25 mp range. Some have rumored even 32 mp. Do not know how good 32 mp would be from an ISO point of view.
