I am looking at buying a Panasonic lumix FZ1000. However, there are no stores around here that I can handle the camera, so I don't know if it will fit my big hands. Anyone with experience with this camera? I made the mistake of buying an Olympus mirrorless, and it was way too small for me. Any replys will be appreciated.

...this is the Lumix compared with a Nikon D750...

You may also consider the Sony RX10 IV. The size of a medium-sized DSLR. Amazing lens, effective 24-600. It is stabilized and has an excellent 1" sensor. I've had since my trip to Newfound Land in 2018.

Which is a great camera with 1/3 more zoom and faster autofocus but is over $1000 more.

I just got one for a friend of mine. It's a pretty big camera, sort of a beast. It's a little smaller than a Nikon P1000, but not by much.

My choice: Nikon p900 (p950 or P1000 could work). Large enough & stable enough for me. Like the long coverage range & easy to use menu quickly. Just my thoughts.

I have the FZ1000 and I find it very comfortable and excellent image quality. There are a few features on the newer FZ1000 mk.II that might be worth the extra couple of hundred $$. I think B & H has it for $797. Check out You Tube for evaluation by Graham Houghton.

Order it from BH and return it if not suitable. How can an online stranger describe how it will feel?

I have the Sony RX10 m3. It is a great camera. I had the panasonic fz1000. I didn’t like it. I have been photographing for many years and sometimes like to shoot in full manual mode. I like having full control over my camera, depth of field, shutter speed etc. I noticed that the fz1000 had a very small f-stop range. minimum f2.8-f4.0 maximum f 8. That isn’t too good for creativity. I didn’t like those spec’s so I returned it. Then I bought the Sony RX10m3. It works great! A little expensive and bulky but I don’t need to carry around a dslr and lenses anymore..It is expensive but worth it. Look into the sony RX10 m3 or 4. It will be worth it!
Good luck!

I have one, and believe it’s best in class.

DO NOT RENT ONE.

Only rent if you are a pro who 1) can deduct that cost from your taxes and 2) already knows exactly why they need that specific piece of kit. Otherwise DO NOT RENT.

B&H, Adorama and many other retailers have 30 day no questions asked return policies for customers exactly like you. Order the camera, get it, try it for a few days or weeks. If it is not what you need, return with all the original packaging. In most cases there will not even be a restocking fee.

If you rent, you KNOW you will have to return it or incur more cost even if you like it. Then, if you liked it, you need to order it all over again. Save yourself the aggravation. DO NOT RENT.

Remember, if you rent, you have that much less money to spend on what you want.

Good point! No question asked guarantee makes it a no-brainer.

I am strictly an amateur. I am a big man. I use the Nikon p900. I found the p1000 too heavy to handle with one hand so I can hold a came in one hand and the camera in the other. The P900 lacks one feature that the p1000 has. It cannot geotag using the location from your phone only from GPS even though it has WiFi. This means it does not geotag indoors or near buildings. In an open space, it takes a couple of minutes to figure where you are. (One trick is to take photos of signs at the doors of museums, cathedrals, castles, etc.)

As an amateur, I find that the 83x zoom is very useful, but it is necessary to lean on something more than a couple of hundred feet away to reduce the shake. The set of scene types on the menu covers the kinds of things a tourist would see. Setting the main dial to landscape allows many shots to be taken from a tour bus window. A friend who is a real photographer tried it out and said that it covers a lot of the situations that he has a whole bag of equipment for. It is several years old and Nikon may have loaded the same software as the p1000.

I don't know what your budget is but if your looking for a large mega zoom, the Nikon P1000 is one of the largest and heaviest, if your hands are that big there's not much you can do besides renting one.

Bought one of these for my wife as a bridge. She loves it. I use it occasionally when I can't carry my 610 FF. I like it a lot. I would think its big enough unless your hands are huge and clumsy.

I have a Sony RX10mk 4 and a canon xs70. Ecstatic with both. Sony the Size of a DSLR. Wonderful Camera. Canon a little smaller but overall a little simpler to operate. Both take terrific pictures and have amazing zooms.

I bought the Sony rx10mk4 on eBay. Waited until a mint came along and jumped on it at last moment of auction. Got it for $1307 with shipping and tax. Hood, books etc. mint condition. Was used on one vacation only. Very happy with this purchase.
