I drive the extra 45 miles to Bear River to look for other birds I might not find in my closer areas, but also because there are usually landscape opportunities. Because the refuge is so large (80,000 acres) you do not have the highway clutter or refineries (just south of Farmington Bay) that occupy your shots. My problem is that as a learning birder, I get distracted by these opportunities.

Thus, the attached set of landscape shots of Bear River.

What birds?

I don't blame you, with landscape and compositions like that I would forget about a lot of things like kids and stuff...LOL

Great work again Mike!

When in the SLC area, Bear River is worth any photographer's time for a visit. While visiting Judy 2013, we went to both Antelope Island and Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. If nothing else, it's just a great place to get away. It's huge and it's beautiful. Unfortunately for me, it was duck season while I was there and the sound of shotguns was keeping birds from coming in. Yes, hunting is allowed on a bird rufuge!!! It seems counter-intuitive, but it helps to fund the place. We did spot (I should say Eagle-Eye Judy) a nice heron sunning itself along the bank of a stream.

Outstanding, Mike. When we have no birds to shoot our landscape opportunities are far fewer than what you have. That's a plus in my book.

Great series, Mike. Along with birds, you should consider yourself a very good panorama taker.

Beautiful Mike! You are the Prince of Panoramas in an area of the country with some of the most
spectacular. Don't sweat those too far away birds! #4 my favorite.

Very nice shots Mike - with landscapes like these I would get distracted easily as well! Particularly like 3 & 4.
