Amazon is great if you order "From" Amazon. You just click on return, check off reason, and choose to print a label or use QR code. You can than choose to drop it off or have them pick it up.

You don't want to buy from a third party vendor 'through' Amazon like the OP apparently did.

Since B&H went to using FedEx all my photo gear comes from Amazon. Everything from my Nikkor DX 35mm F/1.8 to the 800mm came from Amazon.

Mac, I wasn’t trying to be cryptic. If it will help you to respond, the online vendor was Amazon. Appreciate your help. Thanks.

Dear, LFingar,
Thank you, for your helpful reply and especially for providing the list of authorized Nikon dealers! I hadn’t realized that there were so many near me (within 40 miles). In Southern California where everyone is in a car, that’s not an impossible task. I’ll be doing all I can (with help from my credit card company) to return this camera. I’ll follow your advice and buy from an authorized dealer. Thanks, again!

Dear repleto,
Thanks, fir the levity🙃. The easier course might be to return it and buy from an authorized dealer. By the way, I’ve noticed that our postal workers are being very helpful and cheerful these days.

Dear Gene 51,
Thanks, for your thoughtful response. My credit card company is now involved. I think that there are enough problems with this purchase for me to return the camera despite the time lapse of a few days. Viewed objectively, I did not receive that for which I contracted i.e., a camera with the features and support the manufacturer intended be delivered. Especially concerning is that Nikon won’t warranty the camera if it was not manufactured for use here in the USA. If they acknowledge that the product is theirs, I don’t understand their reasoning. I searched far and wide for a camera that suits me and the Nikon D5600 was my choice for its features, size and weight. One of our UHH colleagues advised that it should serve me well for “10+ years.” I know of photographers who collect cameras and gear. Don’t know whether I’m one of those. I just want to have fun!

Dear Jeep Daddy,

Thanks, for your response. By “next level” I meant that I’ve appealed to my credit card company for help. Also, I’m broadening my search by checking with multiple authorized dealers to find the camera. I won’t buy two cameras; I’ll use my iphone and resurrect my Fujifilm F660EXR before doing anything that drastic!

Bob,
We will be doing some post-processing by the end of the semester. I don’t have a PC or a MAC so will I use my ipad and/or iPhone XR with Lightroom, and/or Snapseed and/or Camera +2. I’m taking a computer tech course where we’re learning to use both PCs and MACs. Whichever I choose to buy in about six months, you can bet I’ll make sure the vendor is authorized and legit. Either directly from Apple or... Any experience with COSTCO?

Thanks, jdub82,
I won’t be buying any electronics from Amazon. Too bad that COSTCO isn’t an authorized dealer. Two issues there: repair and service and Nikon’s policy of fixed price!

Unless you are prepared to deal with the warranty issues of grey market Nikons I suggest you return it, if possible, and buy authorized. If you can't return it, you probably saved some money for an identical camera and odds are that you will never have a warranty claim anyway. Grey market is less of an issue with Canon but I still only buy from authorized Canon dealers.
Here is the current list of authorized Nikon deale... (show quote)

In the list it say: NPD= Nikon Professional Dealer and, NID= Nikon Image Dealer. What is the difference???

One other caveat. Even authorized Nikon dealers are permitted to sell 'grey market' products.

B&H, one of the largest dealers, labels them "Imported". Since all Nikon cameras are imported, in this case it means it did not come from NikonUSA. Always read the small print no matter where you buy.

Don't know. I'm not a Nikon user. My guess though is that since large companies like B&H and Adorama are listed as NPD that they provide a wider range of products and services. Nikon makes far more then just consumer cameras.

Over the past 7 years I've purchased 8 cameras and probably 2 dozen lenses, all used, all on ebay from top rated sellers. I have probably saved about 1/3 below new prices, much more if the item is out of production. I never bought a warranty. Never had a single problem. Just food for thought.

To what degree do you use the equipment that you purchased? Would you consider yourself a light user? Or would you consider yourself a moderate or a heavy user?

A light user. Just a hobbyist, not a pro by any means. But once I started buying on ebay I couldn't see buying new any more. Also bought microscopes and lenses, guitars, mics, preamps and tube amplifiers and my HP desktop computer which I use for mixing music, editing stills and videos, etc. I've had the computer for 5 years without a single issue, just upgraded to 16GB RAM when I got it. See attached pic.
7 months ago I decided to upgrade my desktop to be able to render raw video faster, so I bought this Lenovo on ebay with 32GB of RAM, a faster video card with 2GB video RAM, and a 2TB drive. See attached pic.

At now 15-years of digital cameras, I have maybe half the equipment counts of Bob, above. The majority of my equipment is used from KEH, ebay and elsewhere. I've returned maybe 3 lenses within the return window to KEH. Anything I've accepted and kept, both cameras and lenses, I've only had one problem, a repair to something I broke on the camera. To me, a 'heavy user' is someone shooting every day. I might go a 6-week trip shooting 1000+ images every day during the trip, but then I might not shoot again for 2 months as I edit the results. If two DSLRs both reporting 120,000+ on the shutter count is 'heavy' or moderately heavy, that I fit that definition.

As said initially, most camera equipment will never experience / exhibit a problem during the entire useful life. Of course, those statistics don't help the owner that does experience an actual problem, even if unlikely.
