I think I have made my decision on the Nikon Z6ii

After all the helpful input I have received here from our members and all the videos and research that I have done while recuperating from a knee replacement I think I have made up my mind.As of now I plane on getting the Nikon Z6ii, the adapter, 24 to 70 lens, the grip and an extra battery.

My decision to get the 24 to 70 lens instead of the 24-200 lens is based on the fact that a lot of the photos I take are in the 24-70mm range and also I like the faster glass. This range lens has worked well for me at Disney World and Dolly Wood both inside and out where I don't think the slower lens, at least for my use, would get the job done. If the longer zoom was also a F4 it would be a no brainer.

Still on the fence about which brand grip to get. I don't want to be disappointed and have to rebuy by getting a third party grip

I think you answered your own question about the grip. Buy Nikon's product and don't look back.

Have fun with the new kit.

The 24-70 f/4 is a great lens. Is that the one you're getting? Not sure if they make an f/2.8 yet.

They *do* make a f2.8 24-70 Z lens, but I for one won't bother...I *love* the f4 version. And I have the Nikon grip...it's solid like it should be...

They do make a f2.8 version $2300.00 which is not worth it to me. Past my budget!

I have the Z6 with the 24-70 f4 lens. Absolutely great combination. I also have the Nikon grip for my Z7. That too is well made, sturdy, and connections solidly to the body. The battery door cover has to be removed on the Z camera but there is a place to stow it so if you take the grip off you can put the door cover back on immediately. The regular Z grip doesn’t have a 2nd shutter button, the one for the Z6ii has one - highly useful.

The 2.8 is pretty awesome. If you have the F model 2.8, try using the FTZ adapter first. Then buy the Z if you still want it.

I have the z 24-70 F/4.0. It came with my Z6. I was, and still am, impressed with the combination.

Looking at the 24 - 200 you lose more than a full stop by the time you hit 70mm.

I think you will be very happy with your decision.

The downside to any of the 24-70 f2.8 zooms is that they are big and heavy. Add the grip and a flash trigger and the ensemble becomes quite heavy.

Nikon will be releasing a 24-105mm Z-mount lens. I'm waiting to see that lens. I have used the 24-70mm f/4 Z lens in studio photo shoots and often wanted just a little longer focal length. The 24-200 has a slow maximum aperture.

Don't cheapest and get a 3rd party grip. Get the Nikon grip made for the camera and be happy.

But the 24-200mm lens is still a great "walk-about" lens when you don't want to be lugging a camera bag and want great flexibility.

I came to the same decision you did, and for the same reason—f4 vs variable aperture. While writing this, FedEx rang my bell with a package from B and H. Sorry, must go. Enjoy your new camera!

Great kit and good kit lens. The 24-200 f/2.8 is $2500!!! And the slower glass version is still good for outdoors and a lot cheaper... I love my new Z6ii and 24-70mm kit and haven't missed my older Nikon, who someone else is now using.
