that's what punctuation is for.
Because the proper single space between a sentence-ending period, and the initial opening letter of the next word at the beginning of a sentence is often not enough visual separation. It's why we went to initial caps in the first place. Not using them is simply a question of laziness. Unless you're e.e.cummings, in which case you're excused.

I've resisted suggesting grammar and usage corrections on this site since Day 1, because many people get offended if you correct them. This, I believe, is an offshoot of the somewhat recent teaching guideline in many public schools of "every child is a genius", and to de-emphasize correct spelling and grammar in favor of maintaining self-esteem and 'creativity'.

Yes, language is an evolving craft. Yes, new words come into usage every day. Yes, most people are familiar with and comfortable decoding "ROFL" and "LOL" and such. But as the original poster noted, composing long-form posts and replies in a forum such as this is not the same as texting on an iPhone screen or tweeting 41 characters or less.

Clarity is always useful. I've seen people get very offended at a post in reply to one of theirs, because the reply misinterpreted the original due to unclear grammar and misspelling.

And if you think capitalization doesn't matter, I offer an illustrative example:

I helped my uncle Jack off a horse.

if english isn't your main language, i can understand it being hard. but if its your main language, then it really shouldn't be too hard as the human mind is pretty good at deciphering text.

which is why this is readable:
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch dnoe at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by itslef but the wrod as a wlohe.
how does the lack of capitalization of letters mak... (show quote)

Sme peopal r dsylexit, ya no. they hav to louk up all most everie word. taht gets triyring.

 So let th morral be "done't be a english polices" it's not a forum for landgage. Its about photography. this ain't english class.

Yeah! And to add to all that.how about "bring" vs.
"take".You take something with you when you go somewhere. When you're there you'll be fortunate if
someone remembered to bring something you forgot
to take.

With all due respect, a message's being readable is in the eye of the writer. Your entry here doesn't meet my criteria, as a reader, of readability; hence, your message was a waste of your time. We use capitalization, grammar (spelled just as I wrote it), spelling, and punctuation for one reason: to communicate with our fellows. Anything that makes our message difficult, if not impossible, for the reader to understand serves only to make that communication worthless.

I do know about the research you mentioned and it's cute, albeit meaningless. So our eyes can figure it out. So what? The message itself - the entire reason for writing anything - is lost in our trying to decipher the writer's "creative spelling" or lack of proofreading.

Just my opinion on the matter. If you're going to tell me something, have the courtesy to write it so that I can read it. :x
