In full glory! They are such mild little Egrets most of the year but in the spring they are impressive. Excellent shot.

Awesome portrait. I assume you added the background and did a superb job with the headdress and feathers.
I love the pose too, he looks kinda cocky...

I expose for white birds by using Manual exposure and reading on the bird and then underexpose 2 to 3 stops so as not to overexpose the feathers and white details of egrets.
The backgrounds go dark because of the under exposures I use helping to separate the white birds, (egrets and herons) for the back ground. This under exposure also helps bring out the mating colors.

It's interesting that they are called Cattle Egret because they are usually in a field walking alongside cattle and grabbing up the insects that fly up from the cows hooves. At Black Point Wildlife drive they trot alongside the car and do the same thing. Nice pic BTW.
