Mt. Katahdin On Compass Pond
For the uninitiated, Mt. Katahdin is the centerpiece of Baxter State Park in Maine. Compass Pond is just outside the southern border of the park. It is on the Golden Road just outside of Millinocket. It is essentially a private road catering to logging trucks and runs along the Penobscot River from Mckay Power Station and Ripogeous Gorge part-way down the river popular with white water rafters and kayakers. Compass Pond is owned by a land management company and has a cabin that can be rented. No power and no cell coverage in the area. This is your view from the porch. Welcome to the start of the Northern Maine wilderness.
Wonderful memories from that area. Some 45 years ago took a two man kayak trip with my brother in law. Traveled several lakes and streams, including one portage.
Absolutely gorgeous panorama. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome place and an exceptional shot to do it justice
Thank you everyone. I'm glad you like it.
Mt. Katahdin is also the northern end of the Appalachian Trail.
