Alan: there is a thin line between intrepid and crazy. I was very close to the edge!

How are things near the antipod? Hope you and yours are staying safe and healthy.

Thanks Roger, to be honest, when I wore a younger mans clothes I was often
well and truly over that edge... and have paid dearly for that.

On the upside, we had a pretty mild summer, not a single day over 105f for a change, which was good,
and got to enjoy a beach cabin for a couple of days on the Southern New South Wales coast not
far from a fishing town called Eden... which was bliss,
having the beach pretty much to myself (see photo below).

Did the 733 mile return journey on my ZX12 (also see below).
The road is fairly boring taking the direct route, until the
fuel stop at Bairnsdale; a large town in very green dairy country with
fat and contented cows.

From then on, the road all the way to Eden
becomes "Motorcycling Nirvana". Making the journey as recreationally
important as the destination... which could be described as "Geographic Nirvana".

The beach upon which the cabin resides:

I'm jealous. Great pics, great ride. Did you see Priscilla, Queen of the Desert?

A pic of a bike similar to my last one is attached. It's was a Yamaha Virago 1000 but the tank and trim was black. I had "given up" on biking when my daughter was born - thinking that it was time to be more responsible. Replaced it with a radial arm saw. My then-wife allowed that it might be a good thing to use to build my coffin. I didn't realize that I should've taken that as a sign! After she left the scene, I started stopping by motorcycle shops. When I eyed the Virgo, I started to drool. I took a brochure home and read it in bed, in the throne room, etc. I was "taken." Loved cruising on the Virago.

Gave up riding a long time ago due to other interests. Now I'm too old for that, according to my wife and in-laws.

Thanks Joe.

The Gen II ZX12R is my old (going on 17 years) Sports/Touring bike that's
very smooth and comfy at high speed, being very aerodynamically sound in terms of lack of
turbulence which contributes to its astounding stability. Another contributing
factor to the models stability is its monocoque construction,
which has bulk rigidity... it does not have a frame.

Back in 2017 a delivery driver in a 2 ton van doing a u turn took me out,
pretty much destroying the plastic fairings (which fortunately protected
the important bits). When I fitted the new fairings I omitted all
the graphics, which gives the bike a better look imho.

I dunno how, but the levers and the bar ends got out mostly unscathed.
Work with a millsaw bastard file, wet or dry paper and metal polish
got rid of the scratches and bought them up better than brand new
and gleaming like a "cats arse in the moon light" as one of my Uncles would say.

The photo of the 12 is just a simple, fill the frame, get the exposure in the ball park,
and shoot affair. If I remember correctly I just needed to shoot the single frame.
Then it was a matter of optimizing the detail in post processing.

The beach photo is a much different story, which was all about composition.
I shot 21 frames to get the image presented.

Thanks again Joe for the kind words.

Alan.

No Bro, I havnt seen Priscilla, Queen of the Desert... Have you?

I saw the shorts of it with the drag queen on the bus and decided not for me thanks.
However, I just googled it and discovered Hugo Weaving (who made "The Matrix" bearable imho) plays a roll.

Do yourself a favour, view a 1991 Aussie comedy/drama called "Proof".
It stars Hugo Weaving (he plays great arse holes imho) who plays the role of a blind Photographer.

What were Yamaha thinking... "Virago" is Spanish for "large domineering lesbian".

Thanks for the kind words.
