I've been to Steamtown in Scranton, Pa. many times. It's run by the National Park Svc. It's a great place as you can freely walk among the tracks as steam locomotives move about. They are working on a "Big Boy" locomotive right now. I believe it's one of three left in the US. Scranton is an old fashioned town of yesteryear and great to explore too.

I'm not so much an aficionado of railroads, but the Ely, Nevada site is very impressive. Several operating engines, cars and each winter they hold a special photographers weekend. They let you climb all over the engines, free reign of the workshops, hook up some cars and take you up to the old mine and the next day out onto the valley. Lots of stops along the way for photo ops, steam coming out of the workshop in the morning as the engine pulls out and then coming out of tunnels along the way. Like I say, its the real deal. The caboose has a copula to climb up into and shoot. The winter works well because the cold weather enhances the steam effect.

I have always been fascinated by Steam Engines and on rare occasions I have been able to take a few pictures. I know that there are several “Photo Tours” where people are able to take staged and other photos of Steam Engines and other trains. However I have never found a website which has an active list of upcoming tours. Does anyone know of a website, or Facebook site that has this information?
