I saw this juvenile with the tail drooping. From a distance I thought it may have been an injury of some sort. Turns out the tail feathers were heavily coated with ice. I wondered if this heavy load would affect the maneuverability of the eagle and the ability to catch fish. As the pictures will show it didn’t seem to affect the eagle at all. I hope you all enjoy the athleticism displayed here. The eagle will probably be stronger once all the ice melts.

Fantastic action sequence! Great series!

Beautiful shooting So strong, it apparently wasn't much of a hindrance

Great action set and captures. Looking at the ice on his tail feathers in #1, you might think it would affect his flight and ability, but it looks like it didn't.

Outstanding sequence, Jack. Looks like the young boy has mastered being an eagle.

My thoughts exactly. I know that ice buildup did not happen all at once but it did not appear to affect his hunting ability.

Yikes, that was a severe overload. Really great series of shots affirming it made out all right despite the handicap.. Gorgeous bird.
