Icicles, Shadows and Shep

These are just oddballs. I took them in both raw and jpeg to experiment. I always shoot in jpeg. Since my camera has two slots and I have read all the pros of shooting in raw, thought I would try it. Files are definitely bigger and can be manipulated more but it takes more time and patience (which I am short of). Then I couldn't find a way to save the file as jpeg. I used Photos in my Mac system. It doesn't say anything about saving the edits, only gives "done". Guess I will go back to jpeg.

Before switching to LR5.7, I used both iPhoto and Photos. From my experience images captured in raw stayed in raw or a similar format. When I printed something the computer appeared to create a temporary jpeg file. If I wanted to share it electronically I exported it as a jpeg to a folder created to be the destination for files to be shared. I’m sure someone can give a more correct and technical answer, but that has been my experience.

Love the icicle shot Barbara, beautiful details, also it looks like Shep is having a good time in the snow!

I am using a PC, not a Mac, but when I work on the raw pictures on Lightroom, they stay in raw. When I want to put the pictures into my albums, or send them off, then I "Export" the pictures to my picture file and in that process, a window comes up where you can indicate how you want to save the file, there I indicate jpeg. Hope that helps. I would recommend to keep on going, I hope once you learn a few more steps, you will enjoy working with raw. - Good luck - Joe

I'm with you NMGal. Never shot raw in my life, don't plan to start now. JPEGs have served me well ever since going digital some fifteen or sixteen years ago.

Very nicely done, Barbara. The downloads are great. Love Shep walking in between the shadows.
