While playing around with the microscope objective setup on the camera I staged my preserved Red Carpenter Ant for a view of its mandibles which I found the texture of its face to be quite interesting as well.

That explains why it hurts so much when they bite you.

Thanks, Kpmac. Their mandibles are quite powerful, for an ant of course, and they can do great damage to insects much larger than themselves and they can rip and pull of pieces of their food or prey.

Thanks, Tommy. I find what you do to be mesmerising and a true artform. A tip-of-the-hat to the untold number of hours and God given talent to do what you do.

I enjoy seeing the things around me in new ways of the things around me that I paid little attention to over all my years. I find that each creature has a specific station in life and it has specialized itself in some way to be successful at it and unless I view them under magnification those wonders would continue to go unnoticed.
