Printing artistic style images

I process a lot of my images in artistic styles like pen and ink, oil, watercolor etc. These often don’t print well on standard photo paper like glossy and matte. Canvas has worked but isn’t the feel I’m looking for. What do you guys use ?

thanks guys - I already use red river for normal print paper. I just ordered a sample kit to try some other types.

Metal or glass? Since I have absolutely no idea what your images look like it is very hard to say what might work. If the image is sharp and detailed metal or glass might work, but if fuzzy and soft then perhaps canvas will work. Determine your intent then your medium.

The real pen, ink & watercolors were all naturally done in matte paper so it would be matte, textured or canvas prints that would look the best. If you find something that would work better please let us know.

For publications I'd call "art prints," I like using either cotton rag paper or watercolour paper. Both give a lot to these types of prints, I think.

If you're using a texture that reflects the texture that's usually used for a particular style of painting or drawing and it still doesn't look right, perhaps it's the post processing that needs looking at. If it looks OK on your screen but not OK in print, perhaps you need to add something like more contrast or saturation before you export for printing. Or perhaps you want to avoid large areas of white (you don't specify what's off about your prints).

Prints not coming out the same as what you saw on screen is a common complaint. Maybe a search of that subject might provide some helpful suggestions.

Red River or CansonInfinity or both have art papers. Maybe they will send you some samples specific to your needs after contacting them. Try the Aquarelle Rag form Canson/Infinity.
Art specific.

I've been experimenting with converting images to watercolors. I print directly on watercolor paper.
