Calendar images of prior decade -31- 2007: Adios to NY & The Big Move to the West
2007 was the year of big change for us: I finally retired (one year early) from my job. We sold our house in NY, packed up our belongings and headed West. In this process, just before we drove our two cars in a mini-convoy across the country, I joked: "I used to have a house, a job and knew what I was doing. Then I became first homeless, then jobless and now even clueless as to where we are going."
So as you can imagine, this was a busy year, except for a number of flights to the west coast for house hunting (all unsuccessful - apparently we are not good "hunters"), and one final farewell business trip to Europe, we didn't travel. But instead we were busy packing up our belongings, discarding lots of things and deciding what would survive to be driven across the land to the "Wet Coast". In the process of selling the house, we moved out of it in mid-July, and took an interim 3-months apartment rental. The house sold at the very end of July, I gave my 2 months notice and worked till mid-September, utilizing my left-over vacation entitlement. Since we had rented the apartment till mid-October, we decided to play visitors for a month in the NY and East Coast area. I basically didn't touch my camera for the year, except during this last month, when we revisited some of our favorite places in the city and county, finally made the drive we always talked about out to Montauk at the far end of Long Island NY and drove down to Washington DC for a final visit.
I did not produce a calendar for this year, but just now selected 10 photos from the year, that I had never worked on, showing a few places in and around New York and then from our long drive across the country. As a matter of fact, I cannot exactly identify the location for some of the images I am presenting, so if any of you can provide me further details, I would be much obliged.
These shots were all taken with a Konica Minolta A2 camera with a resolution of 8 MP - and some of them show rather less than stellar resolution.

Thank you Barbara - yes, the library is ornate and wonderfully colorful - we visited it for the first time and would love to spend more time in there as well.
Thank you very much Bill!
Thank you Jim - yes, you are right: this calendar series with highlights of a year does not bring much calming continuity but rather a whirlwind of different subjects - glad to hear that you like this change of pace.
More beautiful work, Joe!
More images from your wonderful archives, Joe. Great work.
All nicely rendered, interesting images, as usual. Thanks for sharing. Please stay safe. Isn't digging in the archives fun?

Thank you Ours, yes, digging is lots of fun and provides lots of surprises, the only negative is that it makes me realize yet again how much more work I should be doing to catch up with these oldies and sort out the goodies!
Thank you Lee, happy to hear that you like this set as well!
