I used a Stroboframe flash bracket with my SB400 diffused off-camera with an SC-28 sync cord. 105 f/2.8 @ f/22 1/60 sec manual flash.

Still gotta work on the focus.

I played around with trying to make a reflector to target the flash-- and finally just decided to diffuse the heck out of it. I'll post my set-up once I've done enough to convince me that it's the way to go. Thanks for commenting.

Silly question: can you back off a hair on the f/stop and give your self more shutter speed or up your ISO? That would help with focus. I purchase some noise reduction software a few months back and that really helps. I'm shooting at ISO 320 to keep my shutter speed up.

I usually do. f/22 is something I usually avoid. I don't have access to the variety/number of specimens that those of you who live in warmer climates do. Typically, I would shoot at f/11-f/16 & 1/250 or so. Thanks.
